Since 2005 when Mutinda was one of the top male artists in the Alliance Francaise “Spotlight on Kenyan Music” competition his professional music career has grown steadily. Mutinda’s absorbing stage presence in live concerts has created a name for him especially within in the acoustic World Music singer-songwriter entertainment scene. In February 2009 his music reached regionally when he performed at the Sauti Za Busara Festival in Zanzibar, and in 2010 Mutinda embarked on his first journey to Europe where he performed with a Danish based band lead by Tommy Flood.

Under the indie-label metta metta ART, Mutinda released his first solo album – entitled Matopeni – in 2009. The 10-track album was co-produced by Abbi and features other Kenyan artists besides Abbi such as Barbara Guantai, Dave Mobb Otieno, Kombo C. Burns, Hellon amont others.

Performing either alone, with a 4- to 7- piece band, a Kenyan or a Danish band, Mutinda passionately prefers playing the guitar during his concerts. “Music is that which takes you to a place where only uncertainty prevails; yet anchoring you here.”, he says.

Besides making music, Mutinda has for several years been working with Sauti Za Kwetu - a group of boys from Mathare slum in Nairobi. Through music he encourages the boys to know life to be more than their environment and that it is possible to find grace and humbleness in the midst of the toughest life-conditions. Mutinda is a strong singer/songwriter, vocalist and acoustic guitarist playing World Music and afro-folk, which contains rare sounds of Kenyan Music meeting the global contemporary influences of today
