Maisha Music is a label and music management company based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The vision of Maisha Music is to be among the leading companies in the world to release and promote music from East Africa. As a label we primarily work with Tanzanian artists, but Maisha Music also distributes music from the rest of East Africa in Tanzania.

At Maisha Music we concentrate on contemporary electronic East African music within the styles of pop, reggae, dancehall, hip-hop and chill out/lounge. We combine beautiful African melodies, voices, traditional instruments, rhymes and lyrics with a more contemporary electronic soundscape. We take the best of different cultural and musical backgrounds and combine them into a new appealing sound.

If you look at the bigger picture of African music these days, it is dominated by West and South African artists and bands. For a lot of very good reasons… We very much respect the West and South African music traditions (and a lot of these artists will hopefully always be our big idols), but we still believe that the East African music could have a bigger exposure around the world than it has at the moment. We also believe that African artists or bands should not always look to towards Europe, USA or Asia to expand (or even establish) their careers.
